Amazon Introduces AI Merch Creation Feature

Amazon has recently introduced an AI merch creation feature within Alexa for Shopping to enhance its US customers' shopping experience. This feature enables users to transform their ideas into custom creations within seconds.

With Amazon custom merch AI, customers who have no expertise in designing and product customization can create personalized products. Instead, they can simply describe their ideas using text prompts, AI generates their design. From here on, the customer has to just sit back and relax as Amazon handles the production and prime-eligible shipping and delivery.

Once the design is created, the platform also provides the autonomy to decide whether to put it on a T-shirt, sweatshirt, water bottles, hoodies, etc. There are many other products eligible for custom design printing through Amazon Merch on Demand, the e-commerce giant's print-on-demand service. Customers can select their preferred product and place an order through Amazon.

  • AI-powered Merch Design is beginner-friendly and does not require expertise in graphic design. The feature automatically handles the layout of the design, optimal resolution, contrasting colors, and design placement on the product of choice.

Some of these include T-shirts, V-necks, Polo shirts, long-sleeve shirts, jerseys, hoodies and sweatshirts, tank tops, along with tumblers and water bottles. The platform does plan on adding more product options shortly.
  • Amazon's New AI Merch Feature also offers built-in design sharing, which allows you to share your AI-generated custom designs through texting, social media, and with your family, friends, and anyone who has access to your design link.
  • AI-powered merch design with Alexa for Shopping is free for all, and customers only have to make the regular payment for the ordered product. All products under the feature are made on an order basis through Merch on Demand- Amazon's print-on-demand service- and are shipped with Prime eligibility. The feature is currently available to all U.S. customers.

How does AI Merch Creation work?         

Step 1: The AI Merch Creation feature can be accessed in two ways:

  • Click on the Alexa icon on the Amazon shopping home page, or
  • Search for 'customization' in the search bar.

Step 2: Hereafter, all the customers has to do is enter the prompt describing the design they have in mind.

Step 3: After the prompt is entered, generative AI does its magic and produces a visual merchandise printable design in seconds.

Step 4: The created design can be further refined by selecting the edits suggested by Alexa or by entering further prompts into the model. You can also modify the earlier prompts and experiment with different styles.

Step 5: Select a merchandise from the list of feature-supported products for the final design to be printed on. Place the order through the existing Amazon checkout system. Production is fulfilled through Amazon's merch on demand service and  prime eligible delivery.
